Is there a character for a tab in HTML?

In HTML, there is no character for a tab, but I am confused as to why I can copy and paste one here: " " (You can't see the full width of it, but if you click to edit my question, you will see the character.) If I can copy and paste a tab character, there should be a unicode equivalent that can be coded into html.

Does Unicode have a tab character?

Unicode doesn't have its own tab character; U+0009 is the same as the tab character you get by pressing Tab. (I think you might be confusing HTML entities with the Unicode character set.)

How do I insert a tab character if the current mode is spaces?

This keybinding will insert an tab character even when the current mode is spaces. It's incredible how hard it is to find how to do this simple thing. I suggest to use the shortcut "key": "ctrl+k tab" that is the default "prefix" for combined keys shortcut. ctrl+v tab is inline with VI/VIM. ctrl+q tab is inline with Emacs keybindings.

How do I convert a char T into a whitespace tab?

It's usually \t in command-line interfaces, which will convert the char \t into the whitespace tab character. For example, hello\talex -> hello--->alex.
